This red fan looking plant grow out of a piece of live rock I put in my tank about 18 months ago. Does anyone know what it is, is it a good or bad?

hmm, from that picture it could just be red mushroom polyps, which are fine, and in a lot of cases, desirable. I may be wrong though, kind of hard to tell from that close up picture.

Is this picture better. The plant is about 4 inches wide and about 2 inches tall,

Maybe Halymenia sp.

Definitely a Rhodophyte of some sort - maybe a Porphyra sp.

Thanks for all of the info and help. Now should I leave it in my 29 Nano or pull it out. As you can tell from the one picture I am already fighting hair algea and I dont need another problem.
