I'd like to testify about Garlic!

A week ago some of my fish came down with ick. After trying KickIch for a while with no result, I decided to try garlic (as suggested by many in this forum). I actually used chopped, mashed garlic cloves.
I have to say that as of this morning after only one feeding of garlic laced food, that the fish are looking GREAT with oly a few spots left!
Only drawbak is the smell of the water.
I'm a believer! :D

I use fresh garlic cloves maybe once or twice a week on top of the crushed frozen food. I soak my food in garlic and zoe vitamins before feeding...maybe 5 mins or so. Just enough time for the food and garlic to soak up the zoe. It seems to work great for me too!!

do you just crush the garlic clove, let it sit and then add it all to the tank even with the crushed garlic????? will this affect inverts like cleaner shrimp?

Yes I just add all the garlic along with the food into the tank. They ingest the garlic which "repels" the ich buggers.
I do not have an answer for you about the garlic affecting the shrimp and inverts. Maybe someone else will come along and read this post and answer that for you. Sorry!

Sorry for the belated response-
I too use crushed garlic cloves mashed up in a little bowl. I then add the food and mush it all together and let it sit for 5 minutes or so. Then I just give the food to the fish, garlic and all. They don't seem to mind it at all so long as the garlic is small enough to fit in their mouths.
It doesn't seem to have any negative effects on my inverts (polyps, anemones, shrimp, crab) and I fell more comfortable using it because it's natural and not some funky chamical.
Hope this helps! :)

Just found some liquid garlic in a pet supply catalog. It is Garlic Extreme ($10/1oz) by Kent Marine. I should be getting it today and will start using it.
I started treating my fish by using the minced garlic available in the the produce department. I only used the juice. There were some comments on the message board that suggested only soak the fod in the garlic juice and NOT to add the garlic to your tank.
Hope it works! :)
