ID LR hitch hiker

There are 3 or 4 "stems" hanging onto a piece of LR that I have had 1 month. The stems are about 1/4" tall and purple in color. The purple may be coraline though.
I have noticed that when I accidently stir up some debris these quarter inch stems shoot out 4" long apendages that look like strands of spider web to collect the floating debris.
Does anyone know what I am referring to and are they a benefit or hinderance for the BioCube?

Yeppers, they're worms.
If you watch the spider web things real close you will see the worm sucking them back in the hole to eat the food they have caught.
They won't hurt anything in your tank - just something else to show people when they're looking at your set-up.
