Definitely a leather. Id say a cabbage leather.

leathers soft or hard because this guy is rough he reminds my of iguana skin but wet
and will he get along with my shrooms

They should be fine around most shrooms. Make sure that no shrooms cover the tops of the leather when either closed or open.
