sorry about not having a pic, but i saw this cool looking puffer at the lfs for just 8 bucks and i dont know what it was. it had green spots on the top of its body kinda like a tortoise and it was like a perfect little water balloon i mean real smooth. it was about the size of a valentini puffer but looked WAY different. one more question, i also have some thing in my live rock i just bought and it looks like a worm but it's in a deep crack and it never leaves that spot it's always in there so i havent seen it completely except this arm looking thing it has. everytime i shine my flash light in there, it sucks in and i can't get a real good look. it is a maroon color with yellow stripes and has whisker lookin things on his head. any clues to what these are?

I think I may have the same kind of puffer as you are describing. Mine has a tannish-orange colored skin with torquoise stripes and spots on the top of his head and a false eye below his dorsal fin. When I bought him the LFS just called it a "sharp-nose puffer", but more specifically it looks like a hawaiian blue puffer. He has so much personality....but he likes to nip at pretty much anything.

I think your talking about a green spotted puffer. Here is a picture:

If so they grow to about 6" and start thier lives in freshwater and then move to brackish water and finally move to saltwater. Here's the different SG's you should keep them at during their life. <2" SG of 1.005-8 2-4" SG of 1.010-15 and >4" SG of 1.018-22. If they are in a freshwater tank at the live fish store you should start your tank as a freshwater tank and slowly raise the SG to the desired level.

wow! thats the exact puffer i was talking about! thanks alot i thought i would never know. the lfs had it labbeled simply "puffer fish" so it was a a little hard to figure out. but anyways, do you think those puffers are aggresive? and how small of a tank could i keep one in? oh! and about the monster in my rock.... i just looked up fire worm and it has a slite resemblence (spelling :notsure: ) and it could possably be it but this thing had more of a bumble bee type pattern but maroon and yellow. yeah and this guy looks cool

by the way.... the puffer was in a saltwater tank already. you think it's safe to stick in my ten gallon (no other fish in my tank just dumb rock) ?

I would say keep it in a tank no less than 30 gallons. The puffer is not too aggressive but should be kept with aggressive fish. I have no idea I about the worm though.
Good luck with the puffer.

I think you have a peanut worm... I have several that are striped with tan markings, but one has very yellow stripes, and the "mouth" is the same color yellow. It looks like something out of Tremors or Dune... heh. Look that up in the hitchhikers thread, but bear in mind that there are color variations!

thats acually a very good example (tremors) nicely put. but anyways i did a search on peanut worm and i found one pic that looked pretty close to mine but it was brown and white so im guessing that it is peanut worm.

Heh. Glad to help! They're actually one of my fave hitchers. I spy on them with a flashlight, and love to watch how, when they retreat, they roll into themselves... very weird. And beneficial, so doubly good. :cheer: :cheer:
