I recently purchased some LR from a guy who was breaking down his tank. Some of the pieces had Mushrooms & Zoos. One piece had the below. It is about 4-5 inches in size. Most of the time it looks as it is in the first picture but sometimes it seems to scrunch up and doesnt looks so good.
What is this??
Why does it scrunch up??

looks like a leather coral. Sarcophyton sp. Looks a little bleached but not too bad. Should be a nice tan color. Normal for the polyps to be out or retracted. Sometimes they will shed theire outer skin as a way to slough off dead material. Here is some info from live aquaria.
