Okay so let me start by saying it will be next to impossible to get a picture of this thing.. It hides inside the rock, is red and scaley looking more like lobster skin.. He has antenna eyes that move around and I THINK has feet like things under it. It came out this morning to eat lunging out at the food. The good thing is is that if its bad I can take the rock out of the tank completely.. Any suggestions.

You'll have to remove it unless you want a mantis tank. When they hide in the rocks, a hyper dip works for pretty much everyone. But have a container of normal saltwater and a net ready to quickly remove him from the hyper-bucket. There are people who would love to have him. I would really like to see what kind he is. What waters did your rock come from?

I will give it a go. I got the rock out and its still in there. It DOES not like light! And IF I manage to catch it I will take a pic I promise. Not sure where my waters came from I will ask my LFS where his stuff came from.

um...yup, you got yourself a mantis! I am kind of hoping that when I buy more LR I happen to get one hitchin' on my rock...it would give me a reason to set up a mantis tank!

I think they're cool.
I also think I have a mantis or pistol shrimp. I hear 2 or 3 loud clicks when it's totally dark every so often but I've never come close to seeing anything and I look hard in around my tank.

That is so awesome. It is green with a pick... like really pink, underbelly? It's hard to tell in the pic.

Im gonna give it away! Sadly the only person I know around here is my LFS guy and im sure hes gonna make money off of him... They are aggressive right?? I have a 29gal set up for seahorses... this guy wouldnt me a good idea in there would he? there arent any horses in there yet... got some corals, hermits, and apparantly last time I bought something a baby star came with it. its either a brittle or serpant. not sure. saw it for all of a minute. about the size of a quarter.

they can change color depending on surrounding. mine started red like that, but is a nice emerald green right now.

it has a pink underbody but not really pink. I think mostly the pink is from it being maroon and the legs taking on that color...

I wouldn't mix the two. I keep both seahorses and mantis' as well. What they will actually kill really depends on the individual shrimp. There is a wide range of temperaments within a species. But what I find is their temperaments change over time as well. A once nice little mantis can become a grump as it gets older. So you can really never trust them.
