ID Starfish

I just got back from the LFS with 20 blue-leg hermits and in the bag with them is a tiny (1/8-1/4") six legged starfish that is tan to white in color. Any ideas on what they happened to give me? Will it live and how big it might get? Thanks

micro stars, they are good to have. they're hitchhikers and harmless. whats cool is over time some of their legs fall off and become a whole new starfish.

Asernia stars = bad news.
I have said this before. I probably have a few dozen in my tank but never notice them. They are known to overpopulate and go ape snot with numbers but I have not ever had a problem and tank has been up for years.
While I am saying they are not an issue, I could not in good faith tell someone to intentionally introduce them into the tank.
Trick to ID'ing them is they NEVER seem to have all thier arms. LOL
Like looking at the land of misfit toys when you see a handful of them on the glass.

Is this a brittlestar, or a seastar?
FWIW, I have never had issues with Asterina stars (this is the SEASTAR), and rarely are they a problem. Overpopulation is due to OVERFEEDING the tank...it is a good population to monitor actually, they are indicators of problems.
Rarely, very rarely, is a predatory species found. Most people, IMO, likely have Asterina stars if they have live rock. There ARE problematic forms but then...so are the hermits, and many other possible inhabitants of our systems (worms, crabs, etc)
BTW, it is unlikely to get larger.

I just got live rock about 2 weeks ago and saw a starfish on it when I put it in my tank. It has been gone for a while, until yesterday I saw it. 6 arms, but yes 5 were gone... very tiny... the first day I saw it it was like that too... still unsure exactly what it is, but it was pretty active and all over the tank yesterday.
