I picked this piece up from the LFS about nine months ago. They called it a type of briareum, but I have never been able to find anything like it. It was really pretty when I bought it, but unfortunately it came with a nasty aptasia anemone growing right smack dab in the middle of it. My LFS coached me through killing the aptasia via injecting it with kalkwasser, but my poor coral has never been the same since. It was happier WITH the aptasia
(You can actually see the aptasia in this pic)
When I got it, it was a beautiful full piece. When it went to sleep it closed up and looked like a soft pink brain. When it was awake it was full of pretty pink polyps at the end of short 'tentacles'.
After I zapped the aptasia, things went poorly. The 'brain' began splitting in half from the bottom, up. It has become somewhat 'skeletal' in appearance (ie hard, purple, rock-like), more on one half than the other. It isn't at all beautiful. The reason I haven't tossed the piece is that it still blooms everyday... even though it looks patchy in places
Is it dead? Can it recover if it still blooms everday? What can I do to help it? If I could find any info about it at all, I would be a happy camper.
