My charter boat caught this fish (yes, we released it too!) yesterday out in the gulf 30 miles off the coast of Destin, Florida. Does anyone know what it is? My captain knows it is a type of puffer, but we can't find any id on the internet.

hmm... never seen one of those in the trade. Not sure what kinda puffer that is,looks like some kinda hybrid. It doesn't have the typical body shape of most puffers, cool fish though.

Based on location, I have to say Lagocephalus lagocephalus, the Oceanic puffer. Looks a bit more like the Lagocephalus guentheri, the Diamondback puffer, but they aren't found anywhere north of Brazil.
