Ok well my Dad decides that he is gonna suprise me and buy me some corals for my b-day. So he brings home two differnt things. The first one i have pics of and it is what he tough were zoos. WEll let me tell you, these are not zoos. THe second thig is like a bunch of 4-5 inch tubes.(im acclimating these now and will post pics later) any help of iding and info on thes would be appriciated i.e. placement (lights and flow), and if they need psyctoplancton or they are photosyntheytic.

Yeah, it's a goniopora, and unfortunately, it looks like it's not doing too well. There seems to be quite a bit of tissue recession all over it at the base and in the last few pictures.

typically retracted goni like that dies shortly after. This is a terible coral to own at any price, if you ask me, since they rarely survive in the aquarium, despite what some people say about knowing "the secret" to keeping them alive. My experience with clowns is that they will host just about anything that they think resembles an anenome but it's not usually advantageous to the coral being hosted, as it just intereferes with the coral and prevents full expansion (though there are numerous exceptions to that).

oh, and they are definitely nonphotosynthetic and nobody really knows what to feed them to get them to live in an aquarium though sometimes they seem to do well in systems with really rich refugiums, indicating a source of plankton may assist in their care.

definitely pipe organ coral....
usually pretty hardy but has a tendency to get fouled by micro algae.
moderate current or occasional blasting with a turkey baster will help. Takes a few days to achieve full opening but looks promising in your pic.
