I know this is prob a very common creature to have in your tank but I have never seen one before and was wondering what it is. It is very cool especially the way it eats. I got some pics of it comming out of its home and then retreating again. It happens very quick so, I was only capble of getting 5 stills of the process.

Does it have a hard shell or is the first picture one of it closed?
It resembles some type of brachiopod(they typically have a shell), but I could be way off on that. It is a very interesting looking hitch hiker for sure.

Well when it retreats it does look like it has some sort of "door" that it closes. Only when its done grabbing particulates from the water though. If he is still interested in eating those pics are what you see. If hes done or if a hermit invades he closes shop.

Hmmm very very similar. Now I am going to have to get a pic when its completly closed so I can see if it is indeed a shell. Thanks for the help.

trust me it's the same thing, there are many many different species of barnacles. I had the same exact one you have. White little fingers and all. I've seen some in the ocean with black fingers and now these i've seen online with the clearish kind. Amazing really.
