Hi, welcome to the site....

Ever hear the old expression...there are lots of fish in the sea....?

There are sooo many fish to select from. I always decided on what was my #1 fish to get and built my system around that....I wanted corals, fish were just for a little "movement" in the tank.

These books might help you, and they are super useful throughout the hobby, just beginning and later on as well.

Flower is right...choosing the stock for someone's tank is like trying to pick out their wardrobe...it ain't gonna happen without knowing what the person likes.

Is your goal mostly coral with just a few fishes?

More fishes than coral?

What critters made you say "Heeeeeyyyyy...I'm gonna set up a marine aquarium"?

This is the time to do lots of reading and research, which will help you form a stocking plan we can help you work with. Do bear in mind that a 36 gal setup is pretty small, so that will limit your choices a little (no tangs, large angels, triggerfishes, etc), but it can still be a nice setup.
