Identify This?

Wow..sorry for posting such a big grainy pic link.
This pink creature is the first thing that has grown in my tank! (well...besides the algae
). Anyway...I was going to head down to the lfs tomorrow to pick up two snails, and two hermit crabs for my 10 gal tank.
1. What is the pink creature shown in the photo? It is about 1/2" tall.
2. Will hermit crabs bother this creature?
Thanks!

Thanks ric. I did a search for gorgonians and did find a lot of pics which looked very much like this creature. I have just gotten home from the lfs with 2 small hermits and a snail. From what I have read, they won't bother this ''newborn" coral. Drip acclimating them now.

Purchased 2 Hermits, and one Snail. Right from the start one of the crabs has contrived to get himself into an interesting position. I just had to take a pic of the mounting, and the invariable ride to the top.

I tried very hard to get a better pic of the coral in question. Unfortunately, the camera just would NOT focus on it very well. It wanted to focus on the background or foreground, but not the object in question. sigh...Oh well. It is a bit brown at the moment. I stirred up the sand a bit when installing the new critters and 2nd powerhead. The silt did a fairly good job of coating the coral, so I may have to wait for a time before attempting to get a good pic of its coloration.

how long has your tank been set up?
It's now on week 4. It was set up with live sand, and the "grunge" top layer from a lfs. It's unreal how fast this coral/creature is growing. I'm also just using NO light. I didn't think ANYTHING would be growing until I installed shrooms later down the road.
