What would you put in it? I am not going to give you any ideas of what I like. Just tell me what you like. I just want to get some other peoples ideas...
dogface puffer, volitan lion, i would try to get away with a clown trigger, maroone clown, blue head wrasse, miniatus grouper.
i dont know much about aggresive tanks but these are some cool fish.
in order of appearance...
Male and Female Bluethroat Trigger
Harlequin Tusk
Flame Angel and Coral Beauty Angel
Black Velvet Angel....Would settle for a Blue Spot or Majestic Angel instead.
Goldentail Moray
Rectangle Huma Trigger
Lots of color, lots of activity, lots of "personality"
Here is what I'd do..and something I think you'll like. Simple, exotic, and WOW.
1 - DME
1- Queen Angel (just for you)
1 - Sohal Tang
and a shoal (say 10-12) Blue Reef Chromis.
I might just do this in a 180g. You may have to leave the Sohal out in the 125g, but it might work.
Australian Tusk
Pakastan or Saddelback Butterflyfish
BlueThroat Trigger
Ebili or Bluefin Pygmy Angel
Regal or Scribbled Angel
Red Corris Wrasse
5-10 Black and White Chromis or Banggai Cardinals
Thanks for the ideas guys! I am going to comment on a few of these later tonight when I have time. I see a few I really like!
Anyone else want to give their ideas?
Now for the ones that caught my eye!

Love the list other than the huma. I really like the variety of color.

Haha you know me to well with the queen! I really really like this list, but do not know what the DME would go in the 17" tall tank.. I think that might be a little short for a DME. I am also not sure I am ready to spend that much money on a fish just yet. I looking into this list though.

Personally:
Goldflake Angel
Majestic Angel
Pair of Flame wrasse
Sargasm trigger
Pair of Pakistan Butterflies
(3) Bartletts Anthias
Bluespot Jawfish
What can I say, I like all of your lists. I would drop the jawfish and replace it though. I think it would be to small for a 24" wide tank.

Banks Butterflyfish (Prognathodes aya)
Humphead Heniochus
3 Tiger Queen Anthias
This is a very beautiful list! I love the variety, but yet some how they fit together.

Ouch, I feel as though I were punched in the gut

Yea, I thought about this and agree. And sad to say I'm not sure a 17" fish will fit in a 17" tall tank either.
But as I DO know you I'd try to work the tank around the fis you love. So Lets do this....
Queen Angel
Golden Moray - Banana
Shoal of Damsels/Chromis
and......
a nice colorful and active Wrasse (Tusk, Red Coris, Lunar, etc)
a med sized tang of your choosing
As I said pick the fish you love the most and build the tank around it.
