Ok, I'm moving my 46 gallon bow front across town.....about 10 miles. How should I do it. Heres the stuff I have in the tank...
Substrate: Crushed Coral
Live Rock: about 25 lbs
Inverts: 3 crabs 1 anomone
Fish: 1 Red Serpent Star
Powder Blue Tang
Flame Angel
Square Male Anthias
Tiger Goby
Flame Hawk
I don't have any type of sump systems so that should be easy to transport.
Any suggestions?
I may be moving in like 2 weeks or it could possibly be not until May 2002.
Later!

You may want to give Nick a call at Wetpets..he is good with that kind of thing and I'm sure he can talk you through exactly what to do.

Glad to be of service! :D
He really is good with doing that sort of thing..even if he is crusty he can give you good advice on how to go about your move.
Where are you moving to? I know you said 10 miles, but what part of town will you be going to?

Well it depends, but I think we won't be able to move now until spring, but anyways.....it would be to McCauly Crossing on Fields Ertle. I guess its considered somewhat Mason....its a really nice place with a lot of room for a BIGGER aquarium...woohoo.

Iv moved many 2 tanks one i moved 2 times so i know a little, and iv moved mine across the room =P. This is what me and my freind did for across town move. Bought like 10 gal or so contaers with "SCREW" on lids, poot the water and fish and anything that needs water in them. and moved them. Everything lived though this move, not a single fatility. I cant remember how big the jugs were but 10gal or more i think.. and just did that hope this helps.

I just moved my tank very successfully just a couple of months ago (meaning no fish have died to this day). I got some good advice from a local fish store. He told me to go to Home Depot (or your local home improvement store) and buy two heavy duty 30 gallon garbage cans (2 of them since my aquarium is 65 gallons). I took the garbage cans to where I was moving to, filled them up and mixed them with salt. This was about 24 hours before I moved the tank. I put an air stone in the garbage cans overnight to oxygenate the water. The next day I put the fish in a 5 gallon bucket, with water from my aquarium, and put a lid over it (you can get 5 gallon buckets that come with lids). I took enough water out of the aquarium so that me and my friend could lift and move it fairly easily. This left about 2 inches of water in it. I left the fish in the water until the very last moment I could. I also didn't touch the substrate. I then loaded the aquarium and all of my supplies into the back of my truck. I kept the fish upfront, my friend stabilized the bucket to minimize the thrashing around of the fish caused my the movement of the car. Once I got to my new place, I set the aquarium up where I wanted it. I then transfered all of the water in the garbage cans into the tank. Finally I added the fish and all of the decorations. The key to it is being very efficient while the fish are out of the tank to limit the amount time out of the tank and thereby the amount of stress on them. The fish acted weird for a couple of days, but eventually came out of it and have been fine since then. The best part comes from the owner of the local fish store. He said once your done with the move, dry out the garbage cans and take them back to where you got them and get your money back. I did that and it worked like a charm, which was good b/c the garbage cans where like $30 a piece and me being a college student means I always need ways to save money. Hope this helps.

I don't have any experience in moving s/w fish and tanks but I have moved f/w tanks and fish before. I would agree with all that BIGDAWG said except I would try to save more of the original water, perhaps at least 30-40%. Other than that the rest should work. Let us know how you make out.

i used 33 gallon trash cans and 168 qt coolers. the coolers were for the fish and the can for the rock and water. move a 135 and a 55. took all bloody day. you can rent a pump (or just use powerheads) and pump the water around makes life easier
