I lost my female today.
I cant beleive it, She was not sick, but got caught on the bottom of one of my powerheads.
I had a sponge on it, but the bottom was open. She was stuck so hard, her poor little insides were sucked out. I have been meaning to replace them with a differant kind of sponge, but havent been to the lfs. I am still in shock.

Thanks everyone.
PLEASE< PLEASE be sure your powerheads are properly covered.
My little boy looks soo lonely right now.
Hubby was just watching them dance yesterday too. Thought the male is still too young to do anything, so no babies either.

Sorry to hear of your loss, Teresa
I use the same sponge pre-filters. Take an ordinary needle & thread and sew the hole closed so the bottom is no longer open.

Thanks Tom. Who would have thought that the sucton would be so strong.
I figure she was picking mysis off the prefilter. She was very young, I guess it was too much for her

This is so sad, I'm so sorry.
But, Teresa, think of this - yesterday, I was trying to increase flow in my dwarf pico by putting in a HOB filter. It was in there about 20 seconds when I remembered this post about your little girl and I yanked it out and put a little stronger pump in the overflow (where the dwarfs can't get to) instead.
Your experience probably saved a dwarf yesterday.

Thanks, its all such a learning experiance. I too have learned something and will always remember it. Though I hate that it was at the cost of my horse

Aww, jeez that's terrible! I am so sorry. These powerheads of ours are a double-edged sword for horses. I'm really sorry for your loss.

So sorry, T. It always hurts to lose one of our horses but to lose her so suddently is probably harder to take. No chance to prepare yourself -- no chance to even try to make things better. Yes, we have all learned something from your horrible experience so thank you for sharing.
