how much live rock do i need for a 29 gl tank. the sand i have is from the gulf do i still need live sand. and are inverts a must for reef tanks?

i would say 40 pounds of live rock
certain inverts are benificial as far as clean up crew but sot nessessary
and u dont need live sand

29 gallon, i would say at least 30 lbs. you could do less, but more is better. like reefreak29 said, 40 lbs would be ideal.
sand from the gulf is probably going to leave you with problems. it is high in minerals and could contain chemicals from run off rain water and other junk you find on the beach.
you could just buy dead sand from your local fish store and seed it with your live rock, or a cup of live sand.
if you have a sand bed, then imo, you should have at least nassarius snails to stir up the sand. trubos snails are good for cleaning the glass and shrimp are just cool in general, but they are not a must.
