My phosphate test kit just came... I tested my tap water and it is at 0.25 Im so darn upset... I just called my local pet store and we got talking about the RO water... She told me not to use it that RO water will be very low on PH and that the calcium is too low for satwater fish... and that live rock needs calcium. I have had alot of trouble with my fish up and dying on me and I wonder if she just wants me to keep having trouble so she can sell more stuff to me?? RO is suppose to be good for fish... NOT?? Some people on here told me that their fish use to dye too until they started using RO. She is in this only for money no doubt. She said RO water is not good for saltwater fish. I dont know what to do now

I have never heard that RO water is not good for fish. The salt is what adds the ph and calcium to the water anyway if I'm not mistaken. That lady sounds like a quack.

I guess she forgot to mention the carcinogens in most tap water. Just 1ppt will kill a fish whereas you or I would never feel it.

I posted this back on 6- 3-06 as far as pH and my local water supply. I used my pH monitor for the readings. Add DI to your RO system if you get one. RO is better than TAP! Also, you can use a PO4 remover like PhosBan.
Cold water from kitchen sink TAP 7.9 pH

I use Corallife (Mg around 930) and it has high Ca levels, just not as high as your indicating with IO. Which may be the cause of your lower pH. My pH is low from the CO2 of the Ca reactor.
The readings I see:
RO - pH 9.06 Ca 10
Change water - pH 7.7, Ca 495 ppm, Alk 8.9 dKH
Tank water with Ca reactor - pH 8.0, Ca 445 ppm, Alk 11.2 dKH.

I feel better now cause I just called another aquarium place in the City... They said RO water is the best and that she is not telling you the truth about things. Im staying away from her... She just wants the money

I agree....its sad people had rather kill fish and make money than to sell fish and hope they will live long lives.
