What is it exactly that you're upset about? Entitlement cuts or the fact that a family with 4 adults in a house are getting $800 in food stamps plus a disability check but act devistated over lossing $44 a month?
Those are some very pretty plants she has growing around her patio there, btw.

Wow....how do you accomplish less then $800 a month? Does your garden yield that well?

I was thinking the same thing about the plants. LOL I wonder if you can spend food stamps on vegetable seeds for growing?

I shop organic store a lot.....usually costs a lot more, However, I don't make my own bread and pasta that's for sure. LOL

Beth is right that is costs more to eat healthy but that's the entire purpose of food stamps. It's supposed to allow low income families to choose healthier food to eat. It's not supposed to provide all of their food. $800 a month is a ridiculous amount but it is what it is. What do you think the difference in cost is between a crappy diet and a healthy diet? It's certainly not an extra $200 a month per person. Correct me if I'm wrong Beth.

Anyone ever notice how many cakes are paid for using the food stamp debit card? I think if people are using it to buy cakes then they are getting too much money.

Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of the food stamp program. I am angry about how much it is abused. I still would rather have the program even if it is abused but it would be so easy to vastly reduce the abuse.

They need to make food stamp cards with peoples photo on it. I can't tell you how many people out there sell of their benefits for cash and then turn around and buy stuff that they shouldn't with the money.
And if people do get those benefits then they should do some sort of public service in order to get it. I don't know what, but something.
Drug testing is proving to be a big detractor from applying for a lot of folks it seems.

Anyone who thinks these types of stories are unique needs to rethink being a liberal IMHO.

For instance before all the anti poverty programs there was an 18% poverty rate. After taking billions and billions of dollars of success from some and giving it to the less successful we wind up with exactly 18% poverty rate. By definition.l Afterall there will always be 18% of the population that make less then the rest. So more and more success is taken and given away. Meanwhile employment and economic activity gets less and less.

But the basic underlying assumption all the while is that people cannot take care of each other. Charities and your personal help of other people is not enough. The government must take your success because you have no heart.

This all is nothing new. For instance, I always wondered back in the day how all those hippie communes could survive financially. The dirty little secret is food stamps. An old girl friend back in the late 70's went to Washington DC on a demonstrations. When boarding the bus, they gave their leader their food stamps to pay expenses.

If anyone thinks all these government social programs do not support alternate life styles and are just used to help people is extremely ignorant.

These stories will and have always been there. And will continue as long as the liberal wealth redistribution schemes exist.

Those programs are not about is helping people. That is best done through private organizations and face to face.

And that will encourage behaviour to be responsible, contributing members of society.

Increasing economic activity, more jobs, people who feel better about the situation, and provide products people want.

Lets see here I am on SSDI live in AR and with my wife working making 1K a month we make to much to get HELP from the Government at all down here except for Health Insurance that is a sight better than Illinois System I will give it that. My Monthly Food Budget is less than 600 a Month for a Family of 5 Year Round and that INCLUDES the Summer when they are home all day. How do I do it called I make my OWN BREAD we eat a lot of Pancakes for Breakfast and I do make a lot of meals that have leftovers that we can eat for Lunches during the week. We do not use any Food Pantries at all or get any outside help. We manage our Pennies and do fine. Also we pay all our Bills on time and have cut some Expenses like I got rid of my Tanks for a bit and my wife stopped dyeing her hair for now.

I can easily drop $35 at the organic store and come out with one brown paper bag of groceries. Maybe organic is more expensive in FLA. You would think in Fla with year round growing season things would be cheap, but not so much. I'll admit, I'm a lazy cook so I don't do too much from raw materials except veggies.

Food stamp program was never intended to completely support a family's food needs. Its supposed to be a supplement. $800 for 4 people seems a lot of food stamps. No one works in that household or it would not be that high.

I don't begrudge helping folks out who are disabled, elderly, or who just fall on bad times temporarily. Heck, we can throw away money on people who hate our guts overseas, then we should be able to help Americans out at home when they really need it. However, I don't t think mooching should be a way of life especially if you are able bodied.

Bang yes there is a HUGE Chance she will improve her job at the new store she is at. They want her to become a Manager in the next few Months so if that happens she can and will get a Huge raise something on the order of 20K more a year. Yes it is hard right now where we are at however at least we are together as a Family and are stronger NOW than what we ever where in IL. Why can I say that 2 words we pull together down here like you would not believe to get things done.

Please, PLEASE do not feel any obligation to not subscribe to government assistance. That is why it is there, and that is why it should be there. Just because it is abused by able bodied people is absolutely no reason why these programs shouldn't be helping people in need.
