I filled up one of the trays in my canister with white and black carbon. Should I take this out? I am going to build a sump/refuge for my 30g, but for now dont have the money to build one. I wont have any corals till I get my refuge....so am I ok?

To some you will be good for a few days only, then they say the carbon gets filled up and will not absorb anymore. The white :notsure: could be your talking about ammo chips?
Using a canister will be fine till you set up your sump/fuge, I don't normally recommend them as part of a standard setup, but they do have their uses.
you'll be ok

I used a canister for a couple years because it did so much for my tank. Then I took it off because I figured that my reef had matured to a point of minimal maintenance and have had no problems for 6 months so far. I do run an aquaclear filter once every 6 or so weeks for a few days with some carbon just for fun. I was even gone for 3 months overseas and my tank looked great with just my skimmer going. My skimmer got so dirty that my wife just unplugged it after 2 months. I did a really good cleaning of all the equipment and the glass when I got home but the reef itsself looked great. As long as the canister is cleaned about once a month or so I don't see it hurting anything.
