importance of light color temp. ?

i have 54w t5 6500k bulbs but i read that saltwater fish need 12000k bulbs how important is light temp. for coral? should i buy new bulbs?

Lighting is very important to the health of your corals. The spectrum and intensity of your lights determines the health of your inhabitants. You need to try and get Spanko or one of the other more knowledgeable people to answer that question for you. Hope this helps a little.

salwater fish do not need 12,000k bulbs.
FO and FOWLR tanks do perfectly fine with standard output bulbs at 6500k or less
lower kelvin temp = more yellow
higher kelvin temp = more blue
for corals higher K will help color and lower K will help growth
dont go under 10,000k for reef tanks
but seriously... look at the sticky's and use the search function this has been covered 1,000's of times

thanks for the help, and i did look for similar threds before i posted i looked at everything labled light, found nothing but unrealated topics.
