I usually put one fan blowing in and one blowing out. Gets cool air in and pulls hot air out.

Same here Rendos. I originally had both in, then tried both out, and finally got it cooled down with one in and one out...

most hoods I have seen have the fans mounted on the sides, is that where you guys put yours? I am making a canopy as well and I was planing on having just one fan on top blowing air out, does this not sound like enough cooling? tanks

1 fan may be enough, depending on wattage, number of bulbs, how sealed the canopy is, ambient room temperatue, ect. I would recommend at least 2, just to be on the safe side. My fans are situated one on each end. I have however seen many in the top that worked the same. It's really a matter of personal preference IMO....

depends on design my csl hood has 1 fan blowing out and a spounge filter on other end seems to run cool too
