In tank refugiums

Anybody have any information on in-tank refugiums? From what I have read, can one be used out of the pre-filter box on my wet dry? ie, can I add live rock to the pre-filter box inside my tank (since at the present moment is has nothing it it). Will this be effective or am I wasting my time? I figure it should work because it will have lighting and good water flow.

are you talking about adding plants and rock into the pre-filter box of a reef ready all glass tank?

something like that, i have the tank going, but want to add more filtration and thought that adding live rock in the pre-filter would act like a refugium of sorts.

you can put some chaeto in, if nutrient export is the purpose.
