I have heard many different opinions on this, but what is the best policy for inches of fish per gallon of water ?? ie I have heard 4 gallons per one inch of fish and very slowly work your way down to 2 gallons per inch....

from what i've been told it's 1 in. of fish per 5 gal. water.

Different people have different opinions on this. Some would say 10 gal per inch and others say 1-2 gallons/inch. It really depends on your fish. 1 inch of a damsel is not the same as 1" of a fat puffer. I would stay somewhere between 4-8 gallons/inch of fish depending on your filtration and fish types.
