Initial fill-up?

How did you all do your initial fill-up? I don't want to wait a dog's age for the RO/DI unit to get to 125 gallons (plus the sump), to say nothing of the water bill involved... I'm leaning towards buying RO/DI from the LFS, it's only gonna be around 80 bucks, and considering some of the other start-up fees, that doesn't seem too bad to me... It's just the chore of transporting it, I'd have to make at least three trips (unless you guys have some inspired way to lug the water other than half-full garbage cans). What about filling it up with tap initially and then doing ro/di water changes? I feel that this wouldn't be such a hot idea... let me know!

Check out home delivery of ro drinking water it may be the way to go. then again if you have a RO unite at home. whats the rush . it has to be cheaper using your own water then buying it

I used about 10 5g jugs and just made a bunch of trips to Wal-mart for RO water. I mixed my salt in the tank. Fish stores charge too much for water. I paid $1.85 per 5g jug of water. LFS around here wanted $7.50 for a 5g jug for salt water, and $1.00 a gallon for fresh RO water.....I had a 90g tank to fill.

It's not even that it's a rush, it's just that I feel like the water bill would be super-duper high, considering that if the unit has a 4 waste water to 1 usable water ratio, I'm putting out.... 600 gallons of water?

Will it matter that home delivery would only be RO and not RO/DI?

I use the water windmill down the street 2 blocks from me, at .25 cents a gallon and a T.D.S of less then 10 it works. Saw the guy there afew time he even let me see the service sheet. Good water .!

This hobby is a long term commitment. Compare the initial cost to the recurring costs and you will find that it's best to spend more $ up front for the sole purpose of trying to minimize the recurring costs, because the recurring costs never end.
Get an RO unit. Make your own water. It's a lot less hassle (especially if you automate) and will cost much less in the long haul.
PS - how much does it cost to purchase 120 gallons of water from anyone other than your municipal water works? I am quite certain that 120 gallons of ready-to-use water will cost a lot more than a measely 600 gallons from your municipal water works.
