Well, I have 10 tattoos and they all feel pretty much the same to me. It'll burn a little when the artist starts and then you'll get used to it. Then he or she will have to reload the ink and it starts all over again. lol It'll be like that til the person finishes your tat. Afterwards, it will feel like a sunburn. Make sure to take good care of it. Use fragrance free Lubriderm lotion on it for the first two weeks and resist the urge to scratch it no matter how much it itches while it's healing or your'll peel the ink pigment right off your tat and it won't look as good. Hope that helps.

sweet thanks for the fast reply! and thats alot of tattoos  my mom has 3 o_O and i decided i wanted one so i set up an appointment last week, so what would you compare the burn to? like a lighter burn? and a sunburn feeling is fine, because they dont bother me at all, i just stretch those and the scrunch em up, relieves it IMO, but i will definitaly not scratch it, dont want to ruin the art. And we have TONS of the lotion needed, just because i live with my mom and grandma, so they just buy it alot lol

Well, depends on where you're getting the tat. lol Some areas burn worse than others. I have a back piece on my lower back. It really didn't hurt. And I have 7 stars with a kanji sign on my right leg that starts on my ankle bone and works all the way up my calf. The areas where there's really no meat are the ones that hurt worse. My ankle hurt pretty bad but the further up my calf the less it hurt. I would probably say that the ankle was the most painful and it felt like a bunch of little needles hitting bone. Not quite comfy but I took some slow breaths and got through it.

well, to give you an idea, its the word Coexist
and its spelt out in symbols not letters, and its only going to be the width between my shoulder blades, just a little higher up about half an inch under the base of my neck. And i bet the ankle hurt...man...i think if/once they are on my spine im going to be in some discomfort lol

It all depends on the person. I have a sensitive lower back so when the tattoo artist got to my spine I was trying so hard not to laugh because I'm crazy ticklish. I think that was harder than dealing with the pain. I didn't want my backpiece to look like crap. lol
But, I've heard of people crying or passing out when they get to that point too. So it all depends on the person. The area you're talking about probably won't be any worse than my lower backpiece.

its the thrill of getting it that helps to not really feel it.like 2salt said depends where it is.but i really dont see the point of getting a tat where you wont see it?maybe if you already have a few but i don get it.
put it somewhere you will see it yourself .
you will appreciate it more.
but its up to you have fun .watch out they can be addictive

I have gotten about 30 different tattoo sessions on my skin. I hate the feeling everytime. some spots are just annoying others are really intense, when I got the tribal work on my elbow done I almost passed out, the artist was new and was bearing down to hard. the back of my calf wasnt bad. the ball of the shoulders were both easy tats to take.
One thing I notice when I had my apprenticship tattooing, everyone is different, and every spot is different for each person. (with the exceptions of the tops of the feet everyone says that hurts like hell LOL)

Yeah. I don't think I'll ever venture to the top of my foot. I thought my ankle was pretty intense. lol
And, yes, they are very addictive. lol I told myself I'd only get one and be done. Now I'm up to 10 tats.
Another thing...if you get a tattoo artist with a strong hand you'll feel it more. Some people bare down more to produce your tattoo than others. The guy that did my backpiece didn't bare down as much as the guy who did my 7 stars and kanji sign. But my tattoo artist is awesome so I can withstand a little pain to get a great piece of art.

I have one on the top of my foot down to under my ankle.... it hurt. There was no numbness at any point.
I'm looking to get it done over with something different.

I have two sleeves started, One half way done.a giant back piece I am in the middle of, and several on my chest and stomach. All in all I have about 15 tats, nothing under 4 inches in diameter. The only one that truly hurt was my neck. I usually sleep through all my tats, but the neck I was unable to sleep through. What really hurt on the neck was when he would wipe down to remove the excess ink. After a while this started to feel like an old school "indian burn", if anyone knows what that is.
Tats on the back are usually the easiest, you can lay on your stomach and just drift to sleep.

It all has to do with how you handle pain. I cry if I get a splinter, so I screamed and cried through my entire session. (I also tipped the guy $150 for a $120 tattoo because of how much of a baby I was). I will never, ever get another tattoo because of how bad the pain was. My husband and best friend's both got tattoos done by the same person and they were fine.
I do recommend Vitamin A and D Ointment instead of Lubriderm. You can usually find it in the baby care aisle, it's usually diaper rash oitment. Just make sure it's ointment (like vaseline) and not cream.

for aftercare, go with what your tattoo artist recomends because usually they have lifetime gaurantee on their work, but if you use something other than what they reccomend for after care they wont gaurantee it.
I personally recomend "Tattoo goo" after care ointment, or if you cant get thAT, A and D ointment is always my second reccomendation..

I used to use vitamin A&D and have tried Lubriderm. While they work I found you have to apply them to often, especially the lubriderm. I have found Aquaphor actually works the best. I only have to apply it 3 times a day, morning, midday, and right before bed.
Lotion I was having to apply 5-6 times a day, and A&D leaves a sticky feel.....don't get me wrong, they work, just my personal preference. I have noticed aquaphor speeds up the healing process....usually completely healed up in a week. The others would take two weeks minimum.

Tattoo goo is definitely the best, can be hard to find though.
Aquaphor
- forgot about that. This stuff is awesome
And yes, A & D ointment is icky. The only reason I like it more is because it doesn't dry out as quickly and has the vitamins that Aquaphor doesn't contain.

did a pretty darn good job IMO. I have always tats but never got them. I wanted to do a full sleeve on my left arm. I may end up getting it started for my 30th bday. You ever get that snake?

Great looking tattoo, and a wonderful message. Now only if everyone could get that tattooed on their forehead, the world might be a better place
