instant cycle of disaster

i placed 5 bags of aragonite coverd with 4 bags of carib-sea live sand on top. The advertisment said instant cycle, and i thought "yea right". OK, after 4 months I am testing for ammonia with no trace of the suff, i have some live rock with life, tub worms crabs even corals. but notraceoh ammonia. 3 fish have died so far becuase they were not helthy when i bught them, my learning lesson,"I left them in the tank they have since disapered. instant cycle or am i in for a rud awakening.

I am not sure what you are trying to say, after 4 months you don't want any ammonia in the tank, your cycle is over, if you are saying that you never had a reading then that is different, how are all your other readings, also don't leave dead fish in your tank they will cause a problem, you might want to try another test kit. Good Luck

aragonite sand and lr is to start the cycle. after four months the tank was already cycled so there should be no amonia. if you bought unhealthy fish will die if not cared for and since you left them in the tank dead there should be alot of the amonia you wanted.

Depending on the size of the fish, you may not have noticed the increase in ammonia. You tank should have cycled fairly early on. The most time it ever took for a tank to cycle with nothing in it for me was 6 weeks. How long ago did the fish die? Since there are no remains, I assume it was a while ago. I would say no rude awakening. I would take the water to a local fish store and have them check it. Your kit could be bad.

Get a water sample to the lfs.How long where the dead fish in there.That will cause alot of problems.

My appolgy, this 90g tank, set up for 4months never acumulated ammonia,atleast so far. my questin is. does carib-sea live sand realy insantly cycle the tank. or did it happen so fast i missed it.
the 3 fish that are dead and missing got pulled into the live rock by a fuzzy leged crab im shure they were damsels, small yet dead. the test kit is hagen.
