Instant Ocean hardened

I posted this once but can't find it. I bought a big bucket of Instant Ocean and soon after I opened it, it has hardened. Is there a way I can soften it up again. Also, it did not get wet. Thanks

If salt is left opened, it will absorb the moisture out of the air! If it is so hard you can not break it up, I would make a salt soup so you can still use it, or break it down into small enough chunks to disolve it!

humidity will harden it up. i used a hammer to break mine up, or bang the container on the ground. grab a chunk, put it in your water. it's probably only hard a couple inches down.

ok thanks. I don't think i will buy it in those big buckets anymore.

That's why I started buying Oceanic salt. It comes in a plastic jug with a screw on lid.

I use the same stuff in the huge pail and never had a problem. It has the screw on lid which helps. I use a lot as I have a 72 and 55 and I do a weekly change. How long does yours sit without you reaching in to mix a batch of water?

It doesn't have to sit long to get hard like this. I once forgot to screw the lid on mine and the buckets I use to mix my salt was sitting right next to the salt bucket, and mine got rock hard overnight, I now keep them far apart. If you keep the salt in a mosit place, and don't have the lid on tight, it can happen.
