Instant Ocean reef crystals?

I was at my LFS yesterday and noticed two different types of salt. Regular instant ocean, and the instant ocean reef crystals. Is there really a difference?

there is a difference between the two. the reef crystals is what i use. its suppose to have more of the things needed for a reef tank.i dont know all details of whats in it so maybe some one else will chime in. hope this helps a little

i have noticed that also, what is the diffrence? I am new to saltwater so this will be very interesting to learn.......sorry not much help from me

Regular instant ocean, imo is far insuperior. Maybe it was the fact that I got a bad batch, but it was lacking calcium greatly. Calcium is a very important thing for a reef tank and IO wasn't cutting it. I switched to Coralife, which also in my opinion isn't as good as others. I have heard good things about reef crystals.
This is from my experience, perhaps I just did get a bad batch of salt, but that is enough to guarantee that I will never buy it again.

Reef crystals have more trace elements(calcium, iodine, etc)than regualar IO. I use reef crystals, having previously used regular IO. The reef crystals seems to leave less of a residue in my mixing tank than did the IO fwiw.

IO reef crystals does have more of the trace elements and other elements that the reef tanks need. However, I have still had to dose when using either of these products. There are better salt mixes out there IME.

I use reef crystals but find that you need to rinse out the container you store you fresh saltwater mix regularly to remove any residue

it's like it sad "reef salt" if you just have fish the other stuff is ok but if you have a reef than you what the good stuff but people can get carried away with cal and stuff what you really need to do (I did not for some time) is get a test kit and find out what your tank uses and compensate appropriately
