Introducing new corals

I'm just wondering the best way to introduce new corals or whatever to your tank without risk of introducing any contaminates from lfs?

well first. make sure its a reputable lfs. i have seen ones that have display and stock tanks covered with red planaria, and when asked about it, they said they didnt consider it a problem! know what you are gettign, how long its been there, the conditions its kept under and if you do decide to buy it, make sure you acclimate it to your tank properly. use the drip method, and never introduce the bag water into the tank!

good luck

I've been following the advice of LFS guy. He's a bit weird but I think he knows his stuff. His recommendation for corals were to pull them from the bag, let the drain for a minute to get as much water out as possible and then place them in the display tank. I've done this with ~10 corals and each has done very well.
Most of his stock is cultivated (not from the wild) so they may make them more hardy.
Just my experience.
Good Luck!

I follow the same process as acclimating fish. 1) float bag for appx. 30 minutes or so for temperature adjustment, 2) then add water from my tank appx. 25% of bag water volume, wait 10-15 minutes, 3) repeat step 2. Drain bag water (not into your tank) and carefully place coral in tank. Has not failed me yet and I too have placed appx. 9-10 corals in my tank. I think this is similar to the drip method.

I acclimate each new arrival like I do the fishies. Makes sense because there are differences in salinity and temperature and you don't want to shock the coral. Leathers in general are tough, they can handle the stress better, so I pick them up from the bag and place directly in the tank without acclimation. SPS and LPS need more TLC.

I have found that if you get a large bowl put the coral and the water from the lfs in it, then add water from your system a little at a time over a period of 30 min. then put the coral in your tank, don't put the water in from the bowl. This has worked well for me for a long time. Good Luck

I agree that when possible to try and do it just like with fish. It can't hurt anything.
Check with Martha Stewart but I think you announce ladies first then the men. Also remember that when you are introducing them don't make them shake hands. They could sting each other. I'd suggest that just a nod of the head or tip of the hat would do.;)
