Invert/Fish Bio-Load Limit

What should i limit the # of inverts and fish i could have in a 55G? Currently i have 5 fish: yellow tang, royal gramma, tricolor fairy wrasse and a rusty angel. The yellow tang in there is just temporary and i was planning on having 6 fish total. Inverts i got 1 Blood Red Shrimp, 1 Coral Banded, 2 Camel Backs, 2 Emerald Crabs, 1 hermit crab, 2 snails, 1-2 featherdusters and what i think are small tiny polyps on LR. (Do those count as inverts?).
So yell at me about the limit or help me out if i could have more.
I want to get a star and maybe a slug. Couple more emerald crabs (Seems i'm getting some green algae) and if i can some different shrimp. So sup???
Tank has about 55 LBS of LR.
Thanks oh mighty people of the forums.............

I would say you are maxed out on fish. Inverts really don't add to the bio-load so you can put more of them in. Just try not to put more inverts in than the tank can sustain, if you don't have enough natural food in there for them to eat, then you will have to supplement and that is when you could push your bioload to far.

I am a pretty big fan of minimal stocking, I have had my share of algae and poor water quality problems and I would rather have a nice looking tank with a few fish than a algae ridden tank with lots of fish.
I pretty much go by the rule of one inch of fish per five gallon (I go by the full grown size of the fish not the size they are when I buy it). If I were you I would get rid of the tang and replace it with one fish or two small fish.

That's what i'm doing. I'm not leaving the yellow tang in that little 55G. It's in there right now cause it's really tiny.
Thanks.
So inverts, whatever as long as i feed them some?

Since you have a CBS you are pretty limited on shrimp, I have heard they can be aggresive to other shrimp. Other than that, I would think you can get what you want, although you don't want to be feeding them a ton, that will mess up your bioload also. Just get the amount of inverts that will keep your tank clean.

By feeding them i meant i try and make sure they get a thing or two when i feed the fish. I throw those algae sheets in and everyone seems to love them............

C'mon now Warlock...you trying to kill MY fish?! I hope that tang doesn't hurt anything or ill have to drive down there and fish the sucker out myself! I think Birdy is right on the money...your tank is nice, keep adding inverts, shrooms, polyps (get some better lighting). Don't risk it...you don't want to have a tank wipeout and have your 120g delayed!
Birdy: Great occupation...I'm sure your twins will appreciate it later when they are all grown up and have been trained well. My wife is also a SAHM.
