Inverts are very sensetive to water conditions. More so than most fish.
As far as levels they can take. Hard to answer that one bt I can say Not much ammonia at all...
Ammonia is toxic to sea creatures. It can lead to death very quickly,
I would wait until the cycle starts to die down and then add some inverts.
Good Luck

Its been my experience that low levels of ammonia can adversely affect snails/crabs/shrimp...I would suggest you wait to add them until the ammonia is zero...nitrite is zero...and nitrates have begun to drop. They should have a good chance at that point...plus they'd have a good source of food.As most cycling systems begin to show signs of diatom and minor algae about the same time.
