Per the directions on the package it reccomends 8 drops per day per 50 gallons. But I was recently told by adding these items i am creating a toxic soup. is this the case? I have a 75 gallon FOWLR tank.

do not now about toxic soup) but the rule of thumb is do not add anything to tank unless you absolutly have to.

Yes, adding too much of anything can be toxic or have bad results......as thefishy said, dont add anything to a system unless you first test to see if you need to add it, a lfs or lable just wants you to use things so you buy things....there are test kits for both iodine and calcium...
Most simplest way to keep most levels were they should be is to do regular water changes with a quality salt mix.....and still test.
