Is a quarantine tank necessary?

How many of you guys and gals use a Q tank? Is it really necessary? Any disease from SWF.com?
What do I need for a Q tank?

A quarentine tank is not needed but thats if you want to take a chance of having a breakout of disease in your tank. The tank should just be a bare bones tank, with a heater and light. I was told room light might be enough. I would put some plastic plants in it for the fish to hide in. Just keep it basic though.

Thanks, I'll get one as soon as posible. Now how do you get a sick fish out of a tank with lots of LR?
My tanl is 150 gal with 200lb of LR. Lots of hiding places. I had to remove all the LR and re-aquascape to get the six damsels out. do not want to go through that again.

best way would be to trap them or net them quickly when feeding. can be very hard
i know what you mean by taking out the rock, except i only had 40 lbs to do!
what has risen your level of concern for a q tank?

If you have a reef you don't "need" a QT but it's a big gamble. If you introduce a disease or parasite into your tank you will most likely not be able to treat it without killing you inverts. If you are lucky it will never happen but if you were lucky you'd have won the lottery on Saturday and would have plenty enough money to buy all the QT's you would ever need

The theory is: IF you QT all your fish BEFORE intro. to the main tank, the main tank should have no problems. Hince, hopefully never having to catch the fish in the main. To catching fish, the only way I got mine out in a 75 was to remove the rock, you can try the net when feeding, but I swear they get wise to that. I learned my lesson, it only takes 1 time and then never again. Qt'ing for a few weeks is sooooo much better than breaking down a tank (but sometimes you get better aquascape, but still not worth it). Also on another note, if you have a very mild case of ich, have you tried the garlic method? (assuming that it is ich). That could help them "kick it". Just a thought. HTH
