aragonite is the best IMO, but the cc should come out, you'll be better off in the long run, IF you do decide to remove the cc, you can sift it out with a fish net, as for the amount, i like to have a 4-6 inch sand bed

If you are going for a 4-6 inch DSB in a standard 75 gallon tank ( 48x18x20 ) - I think you'll need much more sand.
My 75 - As I recall - I used somewhere around,
(3) 40lb bags of CaribSea Special Grade Seaflor sand and
(2) 30lb bags of their Aragamax Sugar Sized
That gave me about 5" overall depth .....

Yes, if you want to keep the CC in it. Otherwise, it will be easier for you to sift the CC out before you put in the new sand.
EDIT: make sure you rinse the sand first. Otherwise it might cloud your tank and mind up for a few days.

It seems that it's actuall y the depth that more important. About 4" of DSB gives the upper level animals the ability to move things around while the lower level traps oxygen and nitrates creating a closed environment where the nitrates in the water actually drop.
