I think it is. Some say that the macros in our systems are high in heavy metals which gets transfered to the fish when they eat it. Sense fish can not pass heavy metals they get a buildup which shortens their life span.
My thoughts, I use only RO/DI water, no additive or media that contain heavy metals so I would think the macros are less in heavy metals than natural algae would be.
I feed my PT macros constantly and have seen a fast improvement in him. When I got him he had HLLE, now he is fat and fit. So IMO feeding macros is good for the fish as long as you are not adding heavy metals into the system.

WOW Reefnut, you actually answered a question I had a while back too!! I was growing caulerpa in a smaller tank as a treat for my tang. I would dose a drop of iron each day along with a little protein skimmer gunk. The stuff grew great so I would remove the rock it was growing on and put it in my DT for a while, let the tang graze then put the rock back into the little tank by the window.
My tang got constipated!! Hemerroids!! He had a wad of...poop right there ready to come out, I could even see it, he was rubbing his tush on the rocks but nothing helped him. That night, he finally let the cleaner shrimp...well you know...
The next morning he was fine. All the while I thought he ate to much at once, but it coulda been the iron I was dosing. I got a pic of the hemerroids too... I haven't fed him the stuff since.
