Is canopy weight a concern?

I'm going to build my own canopy. I would like to use oak because it is so much prettier than pine, but oak also weighs a lot more. Is it o.k. to put a heavy canopy on a 125 gallon tank, the tank has 3/8th inch glass. Or should I go the safe route and use pine? Thanks.

My stand and conopy are made of oak. The canopy sits directly ontop of the tank.
