I have a tank that was given to me and attached to the live rock on the very top is a thing that looks like a exactly like a mushroom you'd find in your yard. It has small protruding things out of the head, and sometimes they go into the head and disappear, and then come out again, but very rarely does that happen. There is a smaller version growing almost right next to it. Any ideas? I am not versed in picture posting yet, but if I need to, I will try to post a photo. Thanks.

Could be! But these are a few, I only have one. the smaller version is unattached to the larger one. Do you think? Maybe a photo would help

sounds like a toadstool to me - my mom's looks exactly like a yard mushroom with a flat top. The little fingers come out when he is happy.
