Is it even possible that tap water is ok?

Everything I read says that it isn't. But when we test our tap water the levels are perfect. We are only testing the Nitrates, Nitrites and Phosphates. My dh is adding stuff to remove the chlorine or whatever...
We have high levels of Nitrates and Phospates in our tank, but the tap water we are doing the changes with isn't testing bad.
We've used the stick tests and also Red Sea Reef lab testing kit.
TIA!

I never really thought of that.
That wouldn't have anything to do with my levels being high in the tank though would it?
Try to solve one problem and find more... LOL!
Thank you for your information, I wouldn't have ever thought about that.
Love,
Aranda

You should contact your local beurough (whack me for sp.) and ask them the statistics of the water quality.

What would copper in the water do to fish? What kinds of reaction would they have?

Is that the only thing it harms? What about fish?

It wont harm fish, but you couldnt keep anything else, no clean up crew, no corals, nothing. And it stays in the water.

Hi SeaSalt -
I doubt they are ever going to build that dam, but they are still debating it. I don't follow it much anymore though. I do love it up here. We are kayakers (inflatable only though) and love being near the rivers. I've heard of Apple Hill, but I've never been there. I don't know how old these apts are..
Thanks for your reply.
Love,
Aranda

I've used tap water for over three years, and have been able to keep any and all inverts just fine. Guess my water doesn't have copper in it. :notsure:

My whole house is plumbed with copper, I have kept all kinds of inverts, and corals (soft). I have not had any problems and my tank thrived, I have never used RO water. Alot of the water conditioners remove metals as well as chemicals the city puts in.

having copper pipes in the home is fine.
I have had inverts for years and i use tap.
But.. it is good to let your water run for at least 5 minutes before collecting it, just in case there is a little in there from the water standing in pipes.
