Is it good to leave your tank lights on alot when cycling

that is diatom algae it is part of the cycle and if your lights are on too long. use a timer for your day and night cycle. if there is no fish in the tank leaving actnitics can help coralline growth on the lr.

It'a anew tank so your gonna get algea.I always swirled my sand to get rid of it and I even scrubbed it off my rock.If it does'nt bother you then leave it alone. If it does then clean it or get a clean up crew.

reducing your lighting may help, yes, only temporarily because it is part of a cycle that you will go through(chances are), but it will also help to grow your coraline,
we got a clean up crew, of snails, and and algae blenny, in a couple of days, all was under control

I have heard that leaving the lights off helps the denitrifying bacteria grow faster - speeding the cycle, but don't really know for sure. A LFS keeps there lights low on their LR bins for this reason.
