Is it ich? and is it contagious?

I just introduced an atlantic blue tang to my 55 reef tank and within 24 hrs he/she had white specks all over shim. Now there are just one or two specs on its fins, Is this ich? and is ich contagious to other fish, namely a coral beauty and a Marine betta???

I am just dealing with my first case of ich myself so I can not correctly diagnose your fish but the ich in my fish looks like small grains of white sand on the fins. If this is ich it is contagious to your other fish and they will all need to be treated. If you do a search on ich you will find a ton of information. I hope this helps a little.

It sounds like it to me...Ich goes thru 2 stages
So it may seen for a little while that all is fine, like the spots went away...not so..
YES it is very contagious(SP?)..There is a very good article under disease and treatment on this board...you might want to try that...if you have any ??? on how to do what is recommended, just ask...EVERYONE at this BB is VERY helpful and patient..

If it looks like small white specks of dust, then chances are its ich. It is very common, and the best treatment is buying a Q tank doing hypo.
As suggested, go to the archives and read read read.
