Is it just me or does this hobby give you stress?

Ok. Im totally pissed off right now at my tank. My dad went out and bought flexible tubing for my sump, why I dont know. Well its not so flexible and its causing my overflow to tilt and slide. This is so hard to fix and im not sure how to. I also have my heater broke this morning and my clorine remover smells like rotten eggs. I just need something to take this off of me im about to explode. I love this hobby and fish but this is getting out of hand.

jessica,
Buy you a UV and forget about the remedies in a bottle. Clear your diseases right up. Get you a cleaner shrimp to eat what is on the fish.

yeah i know the feeling. hey triga22 if your still having problems with the flexible pipe, try heating it up with a hair dryer or a heat gun if you have one (like realy hot) and then try bending it to the shape you want and see if it will stay

Yea. Its just not flexible at all. My dad is really pised at the tank and wants to sell it... Sucks for my even though Its all my money. He also brought up a good point. I cant buy a chiller and when we go to NY in the summer our house is kept at like 85 and my tank will overheat.

I think it really stresses the wallet, but I love a challenge!!!

I have not felt any pain yet, but I can understand what you are all saying. But, I think this is no different than having another type of pet. The all present us with challenges, but in the end, we love them and take care of them. I think SWF is a little different since you are not only taking care of the fish, but the environment they live in.

you want stress wait untill your whole tank crashes with thousands of dollars of livestock in it, or your protien skimmer goes nuts dumping 20G of nasty water all over the floor....... it only gets better.
personally I think the benifits outweigh the stress, its like owning a puppy sure they poop on the floor but you work on it and eventually it gets better.

There is stress, and there is stress.
Getting everything hooked up properly, yeah, that is annoying and just takes time to get it right (I have flexible tubing - it is just a matter of having the right length to get it to fit right but it will work out
).
You can get stressed and frustrated because you added things to fast. This is why people try and say to have patience. They want everyone to AVOID the same mistakes they made. But over and over, people are in the same boat. It is a lesson that is hard to learn. In the end, the fish pay the most for this issue, because they are so stressed they will likely die.
I have stress because of the time it takes just to do basic stuff, and just losing interest in the hobby for various reasons.
Then there is the stress above when the thing just crashes, which has happened to very good experienced people. Sometimes something just breaks at the wrong time.
There are things that we do that make it better, or make it worse...

I have had many tanks and always swore I would learn from my mistakes and do it right one day. I had my last 75g that only had 2 maxi1200's, a HOB aquaC skimmer, and a heater. 4 NO 40w bulbs, and I used dechlorinated tap. Lost a few fish, but had healthy shrooms, gsp, and leathers, never many algae problems. Just brown on glass and rocks and a lil cyano. Always would get stuff that looked cool but caused problems later like a CBS which attacked my fish, blue hermits which killed snails, brittle stars which ate my Banghai cards. Then my house caught fire and blew the tank. This time, beautiful functional stand, hood with 4 VHO and moon lights built in, 15g sump, 15g fuge, more sand, more rock, 3 maxi900's, CSS125, phosban reactor, RO/DI water, and researched animals before they go in. Sand is spotless, water is crystal clear even when it is drained in a bucket, two fish losses, healthy corals, but the worst hair algae Iv ever seen. cut lights down, water changes every week, many "algae eaters", feed every other day, my wife hates the tank because of it and I just want to give up. So frustrating. But, one day, when I find what clears it up, I will have the tank I'v always wanted.

Funny thing is is that having a successfully run aquarium is supposed to relieve stress by relaxing in front of it and watching it, not causing the stress. But I suppose it's a no pain no gain situation. :happyfish

i used to have a 4wheeler. That was kind of my hobby and it could be stressful, get a problem with the engine and all that. But then you ride it and can forget about everything for a little while.

Please, let us not have newbies thinking this hobby will completely stress them out. On the other hand, note that there are stresses involved. The best way to alleviate new commer's stress is to take things slow, ask as many questions as you can think of, QT new arrivals, and never try to take the easy way out. Take a deep breath. Most things are fixable if we catch them in time.

Being a new guy I can really stress to other newbies to take it SLOW. You see a post on here at times that reads "just bought a tank and some fish at the LFS, now what do I do" these are the kinds of situations that can cause an issue. I have been reading and reading some more since I do not want to have a $3000 crash. Not saying it won't happen, but I will do everything right the first time to lower the risk. One thing I think would really help is a pinned post explaining the research and tools needed to do it right before you buy the tank. I am sure a lot of stuff can be contributed to a post like this so those new to the hobbie know what they are getting into.

TRIGA22-
I bought some flex tubing that was stiff. It was large diameter that I was going to use for my overflow box to my sump. It tilted my overflow box so I went back and bought some spa tube. Super flexible. Something to consider.

Yea. Its only bringing me stress because its getting the sump set up. Once its over itll be stress free with corals and such.
