I was always told not to start a SWA with less than a 20gal.I see some of you have small ones with alot in them. Not fish but corals and such.So you can have a small SWA?Only with small stuff?

The larger the tank the easier to keep the water parameters stable and as in all tanks you have to conceder the size when picking the animals that go into it.

The larger the tank the let the fluxuations. The toxins are more diluted in more water. Their aren't that many if any fish you can really put much in a tank smaller than 20 gallon, maybe a yellow tail and a fire fish, maybe. You are pretty much just can just have inverts and coral. But tank size really depends on your budget and your goals for the tank.

In my experience, if you are starting out, and want a small tank do a fowlr setup. I had 2 ocel. clowns, and 15 pounds of live rock in a 20g tall tank and the fish did great. only reason I took that tank down was because I upgraded to a 125g. had that small tank goin for 3 months before I upgraded too ^^.

If your just starting out it's usually easier to have more water to work with. Since most people start out with fish and move later to reefs you wan't more water so flucuations aren't as deadly, a dead fish in a 10 gallon may crash the tank but in a 55 wouldn't make much of a difference. For nanos it's more about the corals and inverts, but yeah it can be done pretty easily if you have patience.

IMO start where you want but you're going to want bigger and will eventually have more than one tank. I'm thinking larger already. Start where you can, research, and have fun.

This is very true! I have a 46g right now... and I would love to get a 75 or bigger on the other side of my living room.

I started with a 5 gallon. Didn't have much in it.
The addiction started, now up to a 30 gallon hopefully
go bigger. Its easier to have more water 5 gallon I
had to check constantly. The saline would change so
quickly. Like the 30 gallon so much more
