Is it OK to switch to sand?????

I want to go with LS and get rid o my undergravel filter and my CC. What I need to know is can I do that even though my tank has been up and running for about a year? Do I put the LS in over a long period or all at once? Do I need to remove my fish? Is 60%LS and 40%DS a good Mix or do I need more LS? Can I go 100% LS? What is best?

Thanks for the info. I never heard of the garbage bag deal but it sounds like it will work. Looks like I know what I will be doing with my Labor Day weekend.
