You guys have been great and helpful thanks ....
Anyway i was a little concerned about my 110 gallon tank that i'm getting next week ... i live on the second floor , is it true that some tanks has gone through the floor because they were too heavy? i'm planning to put my tank against the wall .... what you guys think.... go smaller or don't worry about it?

110 gallons will weigh over half a ton (1,000 lbs.) once full. Think of it this way, would you worry if 5 200 pound men stood side by side on your floor? Get a few friends and see....they're cheaper then the tank if they fall through! Seriously, make sure the floor can handle it.

Well I can tell you that I would at least put that against an external wall if possible because generally that is the strongest part of the structure. Sometimes apartments are not overbuilt and standard building code is 40 lbs / sqft. So if your tank is 4x2 that is roughly 320 lbs that your floor should be able to support. The tank loaded should weigh somewhere around 1100, so you are pushing this number. With this being said, I don't think you have to worry about a 110. I am in the process of putting a 300 in my house. I had an archetect come in to take a look at the flooring and support and I am running an extra steel support beam in the basement. Better safe than sorry. Good Luck with the floor and the tank.
