Is live sand the best substrate

I am going to be taking out the crushed coral and adding live sand. I was wondering if it was okay to have my bottom of the tank filled entirelly with sugar sized live sand, or should I mix it with arag-alive of a coarser material to get a mixed bed????

I mixed mine with aragonite sugar size sand. Put the aragonite sand in first--just be sure to rinse really well. Then after that settles, put in the live sand, do not rinse. Be sure to put the live on top as not to kill the many fauna that lives in it. Eventually it will all become alive, especially if you have live rock.

yep, i agree totally with Anonome on this one.... doesn't really make a difference in my mind, especially not if your just starting up the tank. Given a few months the live sand will "seed" your arag sand. Just make sure if you have any livestock to put them in a QT for a while when you take out the CC because if the tanks been up for a bit, its sure to bring up the trates
By the way.. where in Jersey are you located Drew?
