I have a little metal clamp holding a water tube to my powerhead. Is it ok to have in the tank?
Also, anyone have experience with monkey shrimp?
Thanks

I've got 3 monkey shrimp in my tank. I haven't had a problem with them. They are kinda cool, you can be looking at a rock and not see them until they move.

The fastest way to get metal to rust is put it in or near saltwater.
Keep all metal away from your tank or where it can't get wet by the salt water.
YES a few drops will not do anything, but if you even have it placed a few inches over your tank, it will get to it.
Trust me, no metal.

Titanium would be the only "safe" reasonable metal I would want in contact with my saltwater.
Maybe you can use a plastic clamp or wire tie to hold this ?
No monkey shrimp here :nope:

Yeah I will look into something different to clamp the hose down.
As for my monkey shrimp, they are really neat little guys. Hardly ever see them, just wondering if they are reef safe. I lost a little mushroom the other day. Keeping a close eye on them.

Not to sound like a know-it-all but those mentioned above may not rust but they DO corrode, Everything corrodes even glass and concrete. The important thing is to know what by-products the corrosion process causes.
Use zip-strips or plastic hose clamps (zip strips are WAY cheaper).

Well, I think it's a good idea to keep metal away from the tank anyway. Though I don't think metal rust causes phosphates since rust is only FeO2 or something to that extent. However, I say use hose clamps since you can adjust them with just a screwdriver, instead of just clipping off a whole zip tie, and using a new one. Might as well invest in a couple of bucks for the hose clamp.

stainless steel would be ok, I think titanium would be good too, pretty much everything else rusts or corrodes including aluminum

Exactly, I forgot to mention that stainless steel would be a perfect metal to use. Though titanium is tooooo expensive to use in an application like this.

LOL...I will just use those plastic zip ties. It doesnt have to be extremely tight...just to give it some extra hold.
thanks guys...I dont think its stainless steel.
