ok so my friend got a xeina today and it isnt opening fully and isnt pulsing like it was in the fishstore is it dying or still adapting or what plz help him!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah some corals can open up and be beautiful seconds after you add them to a new tank.. some (like xenia) take roughly 4 days or more before they're beautiful.
WOW! i just came from his house (rite down the block) and the like things that pulse are like down like facing the sand instead of up it looks really BAD! could it die?
ok...i'm just saying, i have had times when my xenia will droop over alot...dont know why, but then later they go back to pulsing like mad....kinda like zoos, they may not open for weeks, or gsp....but maybe a pic will say something diff.
bad news i cant find my cam it magicaly is gone it looks like the tenticale thinks are going away a little weird! im worried he paye $30 for a small xeina
Pulsing Xenia like good lights and a minimum ph of 8.2 preferably higher. Low to medium flow is where I have mine up close to the PC lights. Usually they get a dull brown color and stragly looking if starving for light, but I seem to believe you just need to give them a few days like other have suggested.
Xenia not pulsing is NOT a sign of bad health, scientist are not even sure why they do it, if it's to release gases or trap food it is still unkown. Yes, a ph of 7.8-8.0 is too low for them they are very sensative to fluctuations in ph/alk as well. Some people hate them because they have been known to take over a tank once established in it.
