My attention is generally not on my tank when my love rock is moved around. This does happen from time to time in the vicinity of the tank and I have not noticed any ill effects.
..or did you mean LIVE rock?!?
nah, just make sure the fish are out of the way when setting the rock back down.

If you set the rock on the bottom move the sand out of the way so you don't build on shifting sand
Ive never lost anything doing this. But my dad has crushed shrimp before. Just be sure you do it slow and easy, they will try to get away from your hands anyways.
